OCZ Revedrive x2 PCI Express - MacPro compatible ?

Hey,

Since the current MacPro is old tech with SATA 2, spending on a vertex 3 or intel 510 SSD is not an option

But if I buy a OCZ Revodrive x2 100 gb PCI Express card and place OSx and programs in that it will be even faster than the vertex 3 with SATA 3 support. But does the current MacPro work with SSD PCI express cards ?

I have one, and there's a few threads on this site already about them.
no boot support in OS X, but you can read and write to it if you install the Sil driver.
I use it as my windows boot drive in my mac pro, works great for that. You will have to put the BCD environment for windows on a regular SATA attached HD, but that's the only special configuration needed to get windows to boot from it in a mac pro.

Had hoped it would work.

Then I will wait until MacPro gets SATA 3 support with my purchase. Buying an expensive MacPro tower with no support for SATA 3 and no boot support for PCI express SSD cards seems crazy to me to be quite honest !

Coming from the self building PC tower world Apple sure is very very limited in what ways you can upgrade these machines.
If not for all the hackingtosh trouble I would've gone that way.

Must say I now re-re-re consider going back to Win 7 Lian Li Alu tower with PCI express X2 Revodrive as boîte drive, 2 Vertex 3 240 gb for programs and often used doc, sheet, pic and database files, 2 3 tb WD Caviar Black HDD for music & movies, i7 2600 k Sandybridge CPU, Asus Maximus mobo, 1000 watt gold plated Corsair psu, 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 ram, Radeon 6970 2 gb DDR 3 GPU, 2 ACD 27" displays and one matte Dell 2711 27" display in the middle - and then still have money left over

I will still miss OSx darn much though, but pheeewww I feel like I'm slamming my head against a wall with all the current mac products

iMac outdated - yeahhhh Sandy will come in 2-3-4-4-6-7-8-9-10 weeks time or 3 months or....

MacPro outdated but NO new xeon cpu untill late 2011 early 2012

MBP updated - but too big compared to MBA for travel and not expandable enough as desktop replacement for my needs

MBA - PERFECT as travel mate had it had backlit keys, now it's only 99% perfection !

They are doing lots of things. They have been talking about the SSD firmware updater for OS X for ages now and it still does not exist. I guess the PCIe SSD requires relatively lots of work while the market for it is small. It may come some day.

OWC, OCZ and FusionIO all said they are working on a fully Mac supported PCIe SSD. However, no one has heard any news yet and apparently they all took the information off their websites.

Doesn't seem to happen any time soon, although I do see the necessity for it as the current SSDs already saturate the 6Gb/s SATA port. Given the trend of SSD development, single drives might be capable of 1GB/s sequential speeds in two years (give or take). I highly doubt that we'll see a 12Gb/s SATA port by then.

Crap - I'm leaving Mac desktop before I even arrived

My only mac products will be the excellent MBA 13 ultimate, iPad 2 (iPad 1 remote for my Sonos now) and iPhone 4.

Mac desktop will probably never ever work for a PC design builder like me
