I've searched the forum and didn't find anything like what I've experienced with my set of APP2, so I thought I'd ask...

About 2 or 3 months ago, I noticed my battery widget on my iPhone showed my APP2 charging case (lightning) was at 8%. I thought this was odd because at the time it was sitting on my desk plugged in. After checking to make sure that the cable was actually getting power and also attempting to charge wirelessly by placing the case on the charging puck for my Apple Watch, I assumed that they had just bit the dust and would no longer charge. I also went into Bluetooth settings forgot and re-paired them. Nothing made any difference. Time passed and the case eventually went down to 0% while it was recharging the AirPods. Once it got down to 0%, the percentage started going back up and eventually reached 100%.

Everything worked fine from that point until last night when it did the same thing. Both times that it has happened, I've done everything I could think of, or find online, to "reset" the AirPods and case with the problem only resolving later on its own.

This is my second set of APP2 and aside from these two incidents, I've never noticed either set do anything like this. Just thought I'd post my experience here and see what everyone thought might be the cause of this.

it's been a while since you started having issues, but have you rebooted your phone since?

I've had a couple bluetooth / AirPod strangeness since the last major update in the fall. AirTags were acting up, then the AirPods started, rebooting the phone solved both. It would come out of the reboot after OS updates with the issues. had to do a "stand alone" reboot.
