When does Apple charge your credit card? Have you ever seen the authorization drop off after they have already shipped it?

I just checked my bank account and realized I have WAY more money in there than I should. Sure enough, the authorization that apple had placed for my order dropped off and never was actually deducted from my account, yet my computer is on my way to my door as I write this. Now I am not sure what to do. I am afraid to call them and let them know becasue I am afraid that if I do they will charge me again and then maybe later someone will notice the first charge dropped, not know that I called and they charged me the second time, and charge me again for the third time. I know that seems very paranoid but I have heard apple has double charged in the past and I have had a similar situation happen to last year where I was charged 4 times for a cable bill and it left me with nearly $500 in fees from my bank which Comcast would not reimburse even though it was their error.

So what do I do? I don't intend nor am i trying to get something for free but I am not sure what to do about this. I know it will be fixed somehow I'm just wanting to avoid a bank mess up that could leave me in the hole for a whole lot of money.

Has anyone ever had this happen or heard about this happening? I am a little nervous.:(

I would wait a few days and even till the imac arrives to then contact apple. Its possible that it went from pending to being processed by your bank and then will show up on completed transactions.

Don't worry, be happy...

Don't worry and don't call them about billing. My CC was charged when I actually received my iMac. Then I screwed up with shipping the computer back by calling them too much... At the end they sort it all out.

Get your iMac, test it for all known issues and (if something is wrong) call them and insist on advanced replacement. This way you'll be able to keep current machine and compare it to replacement iMac.

Good luck,
K

Apple are intentionally messing with your mind. Out out 6 billion people on the planet, they chose you :p

I KNEW IT! On second thought I think they just realized how totally awesome and amazing I am and could think of no way to honor it other than giving me a free computer. ;P

I was charged for my iMac 2 days after it arrived. I think every time I order from Apple this is the way it is done. Just bought Aperture 3 and money was taken from my account the day after it arrived, and delivery was delayed 2 days because of snow.

I have had an odd billing issue as well fellas...

Btw, I have been fully charged for it, and it hasn't even been shipped yet, it's still prepared for shipping... but oh well.

I noticed in the details of my bank statement I was charged for the Full total (including shipping) and then charged an ADDITIONAL charge of 33$ basically getting charged a seperate charge for shipping again.

i called them up, and the apple guy said he would remove that second charge.

Later I noticed that my Apple Order on the website in order status had the shipping 33$ completley removed and 0.00 Zero'd out, so it looked like i never even ordered 2-3 day shipping... -_-

very very odd stuff here... but i went back to my statement and the 33$ Had been taking out of my card statement, and i was no longer charged for it.

However the total ammount for the original purchase did in fact include the 33$ for shipping.

To give you an example.. I ordered the 27" i7, which looks like this on the site before you order, and also looks like this on my order status before the fix.

$2,199.00
+ 109. $
+ 33$ Shipping
Total= 2,341 $

This is WHAT i had charged on my credit card.

However, ALSO on my credit card was an Additional 33$

So I got charged for 2 things, $2,341 and also $33

after the Apple rep "fixed this"

the 33$ was removed on my bank account, and $2,341 stayed.

i went back to the apple store Order and my order now looks like this

$2,199.00
+ Tax $109.00
Shipping 0.00
Total - $2,308.95

Wtf??

Total glitch in the system??

The same thing happened to me. Authorization dropped off before it was shipped then it got charged a couple of days after I received the computer.

Thanks everyone. They have put a new authorization on this morning. they had refunded my shipping and the refund also showed up. So all is well! :D
