Mac Pro 4,1 (Flashed 5,1)
Big Sur 11.7.3
OpenCore 0.8.8
80GB 1333Mhz RAM
2x 3.46 CPU
RX5600

This may be nothing but it may be something.

I have just updated my installation of Big Sur to 11.7.3 and OpenCore to 0.8.8 using the package available in these forums. Performed a 5 chime NVRAM Reset and rebooted. Following this I have been having some reboots and kernel panics and my USB 3 devices are failing to mount. They are visible in System profiler when plugged directly into the card but not mounting.

Card is a StarTech (PEXUSB312A2)

I am assuming that the card is damaged somehow. Have booted into my Mojave backup and still no go on the USB card.

However I have also noticed that my BootRom now has a very unusual version number 9144.0.8.0.0

EIDT just to add running refi check in terminal returns the "No matching services found" error

I have checked my ROMDump and have plenty of free space going by @tsialex recommendations but a lot of invalid entries. (Pulled off of my Mojave drive)

Just looking for any ideas, and support really!

Thank you all again for all the help and support.

9144.0.8.0.0 is expected, it's the @h9826790 OC package. This is just workaround, or better, a way to avoid unwanted firmware updates when spoofing iMac Pro or late-2019 Mac Pro.

The main issue at play here is that you have a cross-flashed early-2009 Mac Pro where the secondary VSS store does not work and you will probably corrupt the NRAM volume/brick sometime in the near future.

Thanks for the catch. I’ll send a PM if that’s ok.

USB just an unfortunately timed failure?

Catalina is the most recent macOS release where the ancient Mac Pro USB controllers continue to be fully supported, since then hot-plug does not work anymore and then with Ventura, nothing works.

The workaround for BigSur and Monterey is to use a USB v2.0/3.0 hub to connect everything that is USB 1.1 like any HID devices (kb/mouse/BT/etc), after that, hot-plug works again.

OCLP solution for USB v1.1 devices exclude USB v3.0 controllers to work, so, you have to remove the USB v3.0 card if you install OCLP USB patches.

Oh wow,

Hadn't come across that little nugget as it's always worked fine for me, but after reading this post I realised that my keyboard and mouse have always had to be plugged into the back of my monitor and, as well as upgrading to 11.7.3 I'd also moved my desk around and they were now plugged directly into the back of the Mac. Plugged back into the monitor and all working as should. Excellent help and info as always.

Thanks for the PM I'll respond there.
