I decided to order a Macbook 1.83Ghz, 80GB with 1GB RAM yesterday, with an iPod nano for my dad. He said he'd sort it all out, so he did, all was fine. Then today he said "Actually, I'd like a video iPod." so I said that I'd call the Apple Education agent to change the order. Turns out we'd have to cancel the order. I don't know why but I thought it'd be easy to alter the order, especially considering that for some reason the credit card charge had not been accepted (all sorted now, was just the bank being cautious of fraud), but I was told I'd have to cancel and start a new one. The agent passed me onto someone else to sort out the cancelling, and she asked me why I was cancelling, and I said "because your colleague said I had to if I wanted to change the order", she said that that wasn't true, but then cancelled anyway.

Then there was a problem. The macbook had already been sent from the factory, to be set up I presume (way too early to ship, right?), and now she was having trouble cancelling it. I said something like "Then don't cancel it! There's no need, I'll be re-ordering in a minute, can't you just reserve that macbook for me?" and she said she couldn't, and would have to return the macbook to the factory.

Then she said that because the card used was a debit, it'd take a while to try again. But it was a credit card, and anyhow, my dad's debit card would have a lot of money in it.

So now I don't have an order. They declined to order it today, I'll have to wait till Monday.

 Sorry, needed to rant.

Had exactly the same issue with apple. Was originally going to buy the core solo but went with the duo and they said for a few days the original amount would stay on the card so it was like we had bought two computers for awhile

Well its your dads fault not yours. I personally find Apple flawless with customer service, never had a problem.

I'm just annoyed i lost my premium price from pcwb.com, at £803, it was a bargain. Now it is still £875, still good but not as good and the macbooks tht were £744 ex vat on the refurb store had gone :(

It's my dad's fault to a degree. I've changed orders in the past with electronics companies and it's all been fine. The customer service was fine, even though the lady I spoke to didn't know the difference between a debit card and credit card, she was fine. It's just the system that I found incredibly stupid.

Just FYI, most debit cards (as opposed to credit cards) have a preset limit, determined by the bank, of around $250 to $500 per day. Anything more than that limit will usually will trigger a fraud alert.

I had the same experience. I accidentally ordered a white ipod nano, instead of a black one. They told me thaat I have to wait to recieve my ipod and then ship it back for a new unit. But I get a free leather case for all my troubles....

Apple has been great, but I would prefer not to go through all this trouble. (ie. Macbook cosmetic issues)

sorry about the problem, but it seems you should expect these things when you're dealing with electronics that are built for you. but i'm sure everything will work out......things happen for a reason
