I have the 15 Pro iPhone and AirPods that I use to listen to Podcasts and music playlists. I always download the Podcasts and the music is purchased so also downloaded.

When I take a walk - short or long - everything works as it should and my Runkeeper app is also running at the same time.

However, when I’m outside around the house doing yard work or mowing the lawn - I get about a half hour of good play. After that the podcast will start blipping, speed up and then jump to another podcast and then another and keep jumping around. The music playlist does the same thing. I tried turning off the WiFi thinking it might be trying to connect and can’t when I’m further away. Seemed to cure the problem the first time. The next day even with the WiFi off, I couldn’t listen to a downloaded podcast or music without all the jumping around.

Anyone else run into this? How did you resolve it?

Out of curiosity, did you check to see if the WiFi was actually off, or did you just assume it was still off from earlier? If you turn WiFi off through the Control Center, it will turn back on at 5am or when you travel to a new location. To turn WiFi completely off, you need to do it through Settings.

Normally when I have odd behavior like that, it's me accidentally touching either the iPhone screen itself or the watch screen... in other words, inadvertent manipulation of the controls.

I physically turned off the wifi in settings both times.

That’s the only thing I can think of - maybe different movements of up and down are triggering the jumping around in the podcasts and music. I’ve always listened while doing yard work in past years with no issues. So this year the odd phone behavior has me stumped.

I remember using my 2nd generation iPod touch while mowing the lawn. It would change songs several times when I was moving more because there was a setting something like "shake to shuffle". Couldn't it be something like that?

I have the problem now where the phone is in my pocket after I've used the Power button to turn off the display, and it will be doing all sorts of opening folders and apps. I'll come back to opening my phone with only 40% battery remaining.
