The south, the deep south
my friend bought me a live phish show on cd for christmas, so today i put in my 17" imac and try to play it but it just takes the disc and spits it out, so i put it on my old first gen imac (that is running the same version of panther as my 17") and it works and plays just fine. so i go back to the 17" and put in another cd to make sure its not my drive or something like that, and it played the cd just fine. so im just kind of confused on what the problem could be. if you know what it might be and maybe how to fix it please let me know. thanks

The drive....

here is my theory ...

The PB and iMac drives have a different way of reading a CD/DVD, it could be that the hole at the middle of the CD doesn't match exactly with the reader in the PB , doesn't find the 1 track and it rejects it, but with the iMac the reader matches the beginning of the CD, just my guess, in the PB a CD has to match the reader, in the iMac the reader matches the CD, try another slot drive and if it works I might be wrong... might not...

I think that most CD drives have to be standard to a set standard of CD size and shape. Check the "on insert music CD" settings on your CDs & DVDs system pref.

have to be...

but aren't ... you can always find those which don't fit, I said it because once I got one with 1,25 mm less than standard ... I made the hole bigger...OK, don't try it at home... it was in my lab...;)

That would really suck to get a wrong sized CD, never happened to me before though. :D ::crosses fingers::
