Does anyone know how I can force Quark to start page 1 on a verso page? I can get the other pages to "switch sides," but as soon as p.1 is designated, it goes to the recto side and won't budge. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Drag a single blank master page to the left of page 1, then apply a master page style to it. You may have to manually adjust the folio though.

In this example, the temporary working folios were just large magenta numerals hung off the master pages for early extent-gauging in the first stages of layout. The '1' would have to be moved to the left-hand side of the page.

I knew you'd come through, bv! I had tried that before, but missed the obvious: Page 1 had to have the attributes of the verso master page applied manually (verso is text, recto is art; they must face each other). It looks weird in the layout window and file, but PDF won't know the difference (note to self: make sure the printer does!) You've helped me see the light!

Thanks again from another night owl,
Cathie
