Hi all,

I have recently started to see odd window behavior with my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Pro. I started noticing it with Music first, as the window never opens anymore when I launch the app. I have to click on the icon in the Dock a second time for the window to appear. Doesn't matter if I let it sit there for some time, the window never opens.

Today I noticed the the Apple TV app no longer opens in full screen like it used to. I mean, all apps are supposed to open in the manner you left them, and it does, but now no longer with the TV app.

I went so far as to erase my Mac on Friday, reinstalled macOS and then restored from Time Machine. I wonder if there is some corrupted plist file I need to delete?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry I cannot help, but my M1 MacBook Air is also suffering the Apple Music for Mac bug of not showing the main window after launching the app. I'm searching for some reference to check if some preferences script for some reason has a value that indicates the app to not open the window by default. Was hoping to find something around here, but it seems your thread is the only one with a similar bug. If I find something, I'll get back to you.

Thanks for the post, and sorry to hear you are dealing with the same thing! I just updated to macOS 12.2 today, and I just checked to see if either issue had been fixed, and it has not.

Hopefully one of us or someone else finds a solution!

Ok, for me, trashing Music's preferences inside the user folder didn't work before, but it seems it's working now under macOS 12.1. If you don't know how to do it, here's how to (but update to macOS 12.1 first...)

1. If you haven't already, quit the Apple Music app by pressing command+q while using it, and then click the Finder icon at the Dock.
2. Depress (and keep pressing) Alt on your keyboard and click Go on your menu bar. You will see that while the Alt key is depressed, you can access a folder called Library (it's the current user's library, not the system's.) It's the only one that does not have a shortcut.
3. Click the Library menu and when a finder window pops up, go to the Preferences folder inside of it and look for two files named "com.apple.Music.eq.plist" and "com.apple.Music.plist," and move them to the trashcan. For the TV app, the script is named "com.apple.TV.plist".
4. Launch Apple Music. It'll ask you if you wanna use the Music service, you have to accept it. The main window will come up and it should work now.
It's been working since last night. Hope it helps.

PS: I didn't read that you were on 12.2 already. I assume you are in the beta program. It'll probably work anyways.

This did not work for me. I am not in the beta program. Apple released 12.2 on the 26th of January. At least in the US. I think their OS releases are always world-wide. Am I wrong about that?

Regardless, same behavior as before. Music window requires a second click on the Dock icon once it is open, and the TV app never opens full screen.

I know these are not priorities for them. Just little annoyances for daily use.

I've been having the same problem - with the Music app but also with System Preferences and Finder. I generally use cmd-tab to switch between open windows, and as mentioned by the O/P the app shows as active in the menu bar but the window doesn't appear! This behavior seems to come and go, but clicking in the dock will show the window. I just upgraded to 12.2 but the problem still exists.

I haven't had it happen with Finder or System Preferences, but that is definitely the same behavior. I really hope it gets fixed, soon.

The other thing I thought about: this happened in-between OS updates. Like, it randomly started happening between 12.1 and 12.2. At least that is what I recall.

No, you are right! It's just that my System Preferences Update panel didn't show me a notification that the update was available. I just read your comment, and changed networks at work a couple times until it showed up. If I see a change after the update, I'll post some feedback.

PS: Window bug not showing up under 12.2 and my M1 MBA. Trashing the plist files solution still holding up since last thursday night.

Hi, it happened again. It seems its related to hi-fi lossless playback/spatial audio preferences for streaming, or playback hardware communication issues since it seemed to happen after I plugged my hi-fi USB audio interface, switched playback from regular High Quality AAC to Lossless 24-bit 192KHz, listened to some music, switched back to regular AAC, then disconnecting my interface, turning off Apple Music and the firing it up again some minutes later. The window issue came up after that. Check if changing your Apple Music playback settings back and forth has something to do with it since it's happening using your integrated audio card... Again, trashing user preferences temporarily has solved it for me. Right now I'm trying to exactly reproduce it so I can report it back to Apple support.

I'll give this a try!

Well, this definitely didn't work either. I switched my playback settings, several times, also deleted in .plist files and emptying the trash. When I launch Music after this, the window does open and it asks me if I want to start listening, I proceed, quit the app, try to launch, and the window does not open. It also reverted my playback setting to having Lossless unchecked. This is so annoying!

Omg! Apple FINALLY fixed it, at least it appears to be that way! Music opens with a single click from the Dock to however you had the window sized previously, at the TV app finally opens to full screen again!

Hope it is working for you, too! I'm running macOS 12.3
