Hi All,

Long story short, I switched a few months ago, and love my Mac to bits, and have basically ironed over most little irks that I had (But I could do THIS in Windows, why not Tiger??? type problems), and the last one is DVD Playing.

Basically I think the inbuilt player sucks as far as features goes, which is fair enough, it does it's job, but I want more! VLC doesn't impress me that much either.

So on my PC I had InterVideo WinDVD and loved it. I could drag a slider to get through the movie, fast foward fast AND slow and take screen captures.

So I had a look on Versiontracker, and a quick search on these forums, but to no avail.

Can anyone suggest for me a good DVD player?

I know what you mean, WinDVD and PowerDVD are far superior to the basic Apple DVD player or VLC. However, they are features that I just don't need so I don't lose any sleep about it.

I use Apple DVD for DVDs bought in my own region and use my mobile phone as a remote control for it, which is a nice little tool and VLC for DVDs that I buy in America (my wife is American so I go there alot) as it strips the region encoding off the disk. Again, very useful. You'd need CSS stripper on a PC to do that.

VLC also plays just about any movie clip you'll find without the need to install extra codecs. It even opens .bin files. Thats why it gets a good rep in these parts.

No real solution for you, just pointing out the extra benefits of the software you're already used but perhaps dismissed a little too quickly.

But I have VLC, and I use it for many other video applications, but i've already said I don't like it for DVD playing ;), but for arguments sake, I'll give it another shot right...

Ok, snapshot is nice, but it's lacking the very basic ability to skip foward chapters..."step" foward merely jumps a few seconds. I use my mobile as a remote as well (Salling Clicker is very awesome...I think the ability to lie on my bed and search for specific songs via my phone, as well as having music pause and a message flash on my screen telling me who it is that is calling is awesometastic), but again, lack of chapter skip is a bit frustrating, especially with music DVDs.

Perhaps it is there, I just can't find it?

Oh, and fast-foward is too erratic.

Like I said, I like VLC for many things, It has opened any video i've thrown at it, It just doesn't do it for me DVD-wise.
