When I bought my wife the replacement for her iPhone SE, Apple offered 30 bucks for it. Is this reasonable. I’m tempted just to keep it, but not sure what I’d do with a 5 year old phone. We don’t have kids to give it to.
Should I just take the 30 bucks? Or keep it?

$30 is nothing, I would rather give it away to someone I knew that could use it.

You could always keep it as a back up phone, just in case.

Is it worth anything to you? If not let it go.

I have some sentimentality with my old phones, they spent years with me. I had one in my pocket when my son was born.. FaceTime through the years at lunch and breaks with the kids, or if I was out of town. Baby’s firsts recorded from that device.. but I’m kind of soft that way.

I myself was a bit shocked that Apple only values the original SE at $30.00 too.

I have two 128gb SE phones and felt I could do better than that selling them both.

I'm only going to this newer SE thinking this will be useful for the next few years.
I use mine a lot with work.

Who knows....
Maybe I will go back and keep using the original SE.

If you don’t have a back up phone.. keep it as back up. You never know when you’ll need it. For example, if your phone broke, you won’t have to rush to get another one.

Keep the original as a back up as others have said or lost it elsewhere for sale. Trade in is always the least half but least value.

Is liking the new phone enough to be certain that she won't want to return it and go back to the old one? If so, I would just turn it in for the $30 credit. These things just end up gathering dust and in a couple of years, you'd be lucky if you could get it to actually hold enough of a charge to be useful. If you keep it around, eventually you'll end up recycling it for $0.

As to the suggestion of others to give it to someone you know -- that's an option if you can find someone you think would appreciate it. You could also consider donating it. Search for "donating a cell phone". Some charities will try to sell/recycle it and use the proceeds for charity. Others may give the phone to people who can't afford one for 911 service only.

I have kept my old SE as a backup that I take when travelling. If I lose my main iPhone and / or need to replace it, having the old SE to provide 2FA when setting up the new one or needing to access iCloud is a cheap insurance policy ..... (and it can also be used as a phone if required!)

After 2 years iPhones deteriorate in value unbelievably. Your better off keeping the iPhone as a backup in case something happens to the new one.

I think I was offered £50 trade-in for my SE when I was ordering my new SE. Didn't seem worth the effort.

It's worth far more to me than £50. If I turn it into a iPod touch, then it's effectively £299 value (the price of a 128GB iPod touch), and I'll also have a backup phone in an emergency. So it was a no-brainer but to keep it.

I do have an old outdated iPod touch (5th gen) which had lousy battery life. I may finally give that away to someone and replace that with the old SE. Makes more sense to me, anyway.

Whichever way I look at it, Apple might think it's only worth £50 but it's worth a lot more than that to me, so I'm keeping it.

$30/£50 is an insult from Apple for trade in value ($30 in particular for Americans which equates to like £20!!!). Just keep the iPhone SE as a back up phone, use like an iPod or give it to a relative/friend who will actually use it like other members have recommended.

I rather take the phone and throw it away in the garbage can in front of the store.... why even have a trade in program if you’re just going to insult people with BS offers like that.
