I just recently purchased Office 2016. I have two Macs and I purchased two licenses (for a good price). I created some custom categories on my iMac, but they don't seem to replicate on my MacBook. Also, I have tried to sync my Outlook calendar with my Mac (iCal) account, but no luck. Is this by design?

If I'm not able to use the calendar to sync with my Apple calendar I may or may not continue to use Outlook. I do like Outlook better than Apple Mai's gui, but it's disappointing that I am not able to use Outlook for both e-mail and calendaring. I'm hoping it's just user error on my part. Any input or suggestions will be appreciated!!

There's no good news and plenty of not good news. Outlook for the Mac, at this writing, is designed to work with Outlook Cloud Services (Outlook.com) and MS Exchange Server (roll your own or use Office 365 - I use both).

Outlook does not have a means to "talk" with Apple Calendar (iCal/iCloud) accounts or Apple Contacts (iCloud) accounts, locally or over cloud services or a network.

Others may pose that you consider Outlook.com as a portal, however, MS is porting Outlook.com to their own Azure servers and moving Outlook.com to its own Office 365 platform; I use Outlook.com. I've taken notice of the latter, and have found that as the Outlook.com account I use now uses an Exchange file format (as opposed to vCard/vCal).

At this point, I use Outlook for IMAP email accounts only. The Mac app is still nowhere near complete - even for Exchange/Office 365 usage - so disappointed so far. I use Outlook 2016 for Windows in a Parallels VM for my real work - even the stock Windows apps (Mail/Calendar/People) have far better support for iCloud services than I ever expected, and I really don't know what the MS Mac team does all day...
