Any suggestions? I am still trying to fix this problem with local network accounts. Is anyone here running a local network account setup with Office 2016 running?

any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Is your version of Office 2016 updated? What version do you have? Also, what OS are you using? I'm using local network accounts with Office without a problem.
 
Happened to me recently. I did updates to Office, and then rebooted, all was good after that. Not sure which step fixed it, but try reboot first, then update.

If there are no updates, try enabling the Office Insider to get an early release version. Auto Update is in the system
/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0 if you need to launch it independent of the Office Apps..
 
One computer is a fully updated Sierra with version 16.8.0.17121002 on the slow updates insider build.

Are you using local network accounts with home folders on the server? That’s the configuration I want. I want my employees to “roam” to whatever computer they want to use ideally...

What is the operating system of your server?
