I have a new 13" M1 Macbook Pro that I'm trying to install Office on. No matter what I do the install gets stuck on "Running package scripts" and just hangs there. Does anyone have a work around for this? Killing the application just stops it and doesn't let the apps work. Out of the gate really disappointed in the M1 that it can't do a basic install of Office without hanging like this.

Back it goes I guess if it can't install freaking Office. I should have known better than to buy a first gen machine....

I experienced this same issue. I finally just let it alone for about 30-40 minutes (even though it said "under a minute remaining") and when I checked it again later the installation was complete. There was also a bit of a hiccup opening a Word document for the first time while Word validated my account, but it all seems okay now. So give it another go.

Thank you for the help. I ended up waiting and it still didn't finish after several hours. I ended up force quitting it and with the force quit all of the microsoft applications open up correctly so I guess it installed them. Weird but as long as they are working I guess its fine.

Same problem here. Anyone else? Is this a bug?

Have you tried force quitting the installation and then opening the apps? That's what worked for me after waiting several hours for the "Running Package Scripts" to finish. Everything is working fine now.

I had this exact problem. I deleted everything and downloaded the apps individually from the apple mac store. Works perfectly now.
