Office: The operation is cancelled

I tracked changes in a docx file and saved it. When I tried to open it again, I got the message, "The operation is cancelled" and the file would not open. This has happened with several, but not all, of the docx files I've saved with tracked changes. What is going on?

Where are you saving it, to the Mac HD, an external HD, to Microsoft OneDrive, to iCloud Drive....?

Where are you saving it, to the Mac HD, an external HD, to Microsoft OneDrive, to iCloud Drive....?

I saved it to the hard drive within the same folder as like files that do open.
