Hi,

I've been under another person's Office Package for the last 2 years; and I'd like to get my own. Do I need to delete that software on my MacBook first? What and where are those files found? As my name says, I'm very tech illiterate.
And then I go online and buy Office365 and then they will guide me through signing up. Right?

Thanks for your help.

Yes buy an Office 365 license, You will need to create a Microsoft ID if you don’t already have one. Assuming that you where using Office 365 before you just need to sign out of the ID you where using and then sign in with the ID you used to buy a 365 Licence. You will not need to delete the software installed. If you were using outright purchase version of office, you will need to download the 365 installer.

Agree with James C below. No need to reinstall, just logout of the current account within one of the apps, login using your new account.
As far as where the files are found, when you save a document under File -> Save As, you should be able to make the selection as to where your files are saved. If you've never changed it, you should be able to see all of your files and the path you can look for them using Finder.

Thanks! To sign out of that ID, do I need anything other than just signing off Word on my dock here at the bottom of my MacBook? As I am not that person who got the licence, I don't have any of her details, like password or anything she used.

If you're using O365 under someone else's identity and account, do not sign out as that will sign her out. That can and will lead to problems.

Just go ahead and purchase a new license for O365 and let the installer install the apps for you. It will not overwrite your documents but may change some of your personal settings like your "normal" template. But that is easy enough to correct.
