It would be too embarrassing for Apple to have a $1499 single cpu machine.

They would have to call it the Mac Pro Am or something.

So essentially what you guys are saying is i should get an iMac with SB instead and max that one out with specs?

Actually when bumping all the specs up the iMac does look more like a workstation/ pro machine.

You are not far off base.

Until recently, the iMac used mobile parts. It was basically a laptop with a big screen and a 3.5" drive.

Now the iMacs come with desktop CPUs and better video cards. The SB iMac has every chance to outperform the entry level Mac Pros.

If you can live with the enclosed hard drive, included screen (which is of pretty high quality) video card options and lack of expandability, the iMac is not a bad choice for most folks.

I just can't come to grips with the all in one concept, unless it's a laptop.
