Hi all,

I, like many, have requested an unlock from O2, and am awaiting its arrival.

I am wondering how this will be compatible with jailbroken firmware.

Should I

a) Leave the phone jailbroken, apply the unlock when it arrives, and hope for the best?

b) Revert my iphone to the official 3GS firmware with latest baseband, do the unlock, and then blacksn0w it?

Any advice? Experiences?

Thanks!

Dan

a) i don't see why that would be a problem. Just leave it, but make sure you have a back up on itunes before you implement the unlock.
b) you wont need blacksn0w if you are getting the official unlock. Do you mean blackra1n?

I dont think there's anything to apply.

I just received a text from O2 saying my phone is now unlocked. No further action on my part.

Well, not strictly true, you need to plug it in to iTunes

To the OP:

A will be fine, but I would probably do B, cos I'm weird. I'm assuming you met Blackra1n and not Blacksn0w

Sorry, I got my rain and snow confused!

My only worry is - if I try A and it somehow fails, would installing the stock firmware and trying B mean that I would lose the unlock?

Does anyone have a clue what Apple are actually changing when they send the unlock?

O2

I got my unlock SMS through from O2 today. I've got a non-O2 sim card in (a foreign one) and plugged it into iTunes but nothing happens (no notification that it has been unlocked).

Curious whether the unlock is interfering with the unlock procedure somehow (I'm using ultrasn0w).

Anyone had any luck yet?

I'm keen to get official unlock + jailbreaking working so I can get my phone working properly - it's always been dog slow since unlocking (or at least I've presumed it's been the unlock that made it slow).

I had success today, here's what I did -

Huh

If the phone is factory unlocked then if you want Cydia you will still need to jb everytime you just won't need to unlock. Also when updating firmware it's permantly unlocked. Just needs to be jb again. If it's not factory unlocked you will have to jb then unlock everytime.

Wait, you have a different SIM in than the O2 SIM.
That is an indication that it is unlocked.

Yes, but I wanted to unlock it officially, not with Pwnage etc.

Anyway, all done now as per instructions (just needed to restore to non-pwned software to get it to say that it was unlocked).

Oh, okay. So it was already unlocked.
Yea, I guess if you restore or upgrade to a legit apple ipsw, and it is still unlocked, then you're good.

once re jailbroken, does it show the carrier? from what i remember after i used the pwnage tool the carrier name disappeared untill the ultrasnow update

As long as you have upgraded the baseband to 05.11.07 and your phone is factory unlocked, then when you re-jailbreak your carrier logo will be shown.

The carrier logo issue was only present if you Pwned to 3.1.2 without upgrading the baseband to 05.11.07.
