I got my iMac today! (I'm typing this post on it) It's absolutly incredible! This is my first Mac and I am never going back to a PC. The keyboard is wonderful to type on, and the glossy screen looks great. I haven't had any glare issues yet. I love Mac OS X, it's simplicity, reliability, security, and great looks. I have a hard drive dock in my desk that's completely empty now. :) I got a free HP Photosmart with it, and so far, it's doing great. I can't beleive people are trashing the glossy display; I love it. It adds richness and warmth to the display and makes watching movies a dream. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this iMac and I guess I can say I'm a switcher now. :D

I get forced into using a PC for work and I can understand why you feel this way.

It just works !

My father in law came over with a digital camera a while back full of photos he had taken that we all wanted to see. I suggested we plug it into the mac so we could all see them on the screen. He said that wouldn't work because I would need drivers and the special software that came with the camera etc etc.

Plugged it in, iphoto fired up, 1 min later we had a slideshow running, with music and drop effect transition.

How does that work he asked ... i don't know and I don't care ... fact is it just does ! You get used to it but most of the time that has been my mac experience. :) Enjoy

Switch back to Vista before it's too late... who in their right mind would want a computer that works? Let's keep giving Microsoft and virus software companies our money for ineffective products.

To be fair though, unless it's a really old camera then it's just as easy to do in Windows and Linux without installing additional software. But the presentation is certainly better looking on the Mac.

I dare to say that these days every single digital camera works as a mass storage device, which is a set of protocol that every major desktop OS supports and is used by cameras, music players, flash drives etc. So there's no need for any additional drivers.

They do like to bundle a bunch of (mostly crappy) software with the cameras though, and many people seem to think that they need to install it in order to use the camera.

I agree! The Mac makes everything fun. I love how everything works out of the box, with no crapware or stickers to peel off. My printer, USB MIDI keyboard, and digital camera all were immediatly detected and started working. We recently went on a vacation and took a bunch of photos. I just popped the flash card into my printer, and iPhoto automatically opened and imported my photos. I showed them to the family, and wondered if I could make a slideshow. Within about 45 seconds, I was able to make a nice, on-the-spot slideshow with the Ken Burn's effect, music, and fade-outs. I love how OS X lets you get stuff done quickly and easily without a hassle. One of the things that suprised me was how easy it is to install an app. Just download, drag, and drop. Mac OS X hasn't crashed once, and everything runs at blazing fast speeds. Ah, no more Windoze nightmares! :D

I agree. I am a recent first time Mac owner as well. It is a wonderful computer and so far, no problems. Hopefully in the next few months, I'll be able to completely switch over to Mac.

A new switcher here too. Was worried about screen from all reports here. But frankly ... OH MY GOD IT IS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! Moving to Mac is changing life experience for a (light) geek. The Keyboard is a delight. The screen is brilliant and no issue despite big windows in the room. The OS and software a dream. Everything smooth... it just feels like I landed in "soft heaven of smoothness" - all along from booting to working with new apps like Iphoto and Imovie. Struggle with Iwork at this early point, but think I will get used to it.

Actually, I am more concerned having enough time to use my mac, as my woman got so addicted that she is asking for having time to play with it almost every minute :)

i just switched also - my only complaint is that i bought the 20" instead of the 24" - i have to look to see if i can exchange it - anyone know what the exchange policy is? i know you can return it in 14 days and pay a 10% open box fee.

I haven't watched any full-length movies besides Rush Chronicles, a Stevenote (Looked wonderful), and some videos from my camera. The picture looks great, and widescreen videos look even better. I haven't noticed any uneven coloration or image issues. Also, there's a window directly behind my iMac and I haven't seen a glare yet.

Ditto. I love everything about it. I thought the keyboard might take some getting used to, but it felt second-nature the minute I began to type. It's the perfect computer.

I've watched a few James Bond movies, and they were great on my new system! I have some nice external speakers which make it even better.

I have the 20" model and I'm happy with that size. No regrets about not getting the larger unit.

I am also switching from the PC world, and I really am enjoying the change. I'm also looking forward to the new version of OSX. Some of the new features look really cool!
