hey guys, i have a few questions.

if what i gather is correct there is a Single or Dual processor version.

so my question is, if i get a refurb one now (ie. single 2.66GHz Quad Core), can i add another processor to it to make it dual processor?
can i change the processor it has now?

might just wait for a refresh, but who knows when that'll be...

thanks in advance.

Unless you intend to replace the daughterboard (that holds the proc's and RAM), then no you can't upgrade from a single to a dual. The Single has a different layout with a larger heat-sink which can support higher TDP processors. The dual only supports up to a TDP of 95W officially IIRC.

Edit: If you want to upgrade from a single to a faster single processor, that's pretty possible. Voids warranty though.

i guess the best long term buy is the dual processor eh?

OWC offers a turnkey service to convert the 5,1.

You can go for faster single CPU or you can go for a daughter board replacement & 2 CPUs.

They are pricey, however.

Yeah, it is better to go with the dual CPU to start with.
