Hey guys,

I'm trying to keep a local backup of my emails (iCloud & Gmail) without moving them out of the cloud, as I would do with the archive function in Mail.

Is there any workaround or software to do this?

Thanks,
V

Any standard mail program (I know Apple’s Mail and Postbox for sure) will, if directed, keep local copies of all email. The location of said copies may differ depending on the app, but your best bet will be somewhere in your personal Library folder.

The built in Mail app keeps local copies of all of your email - it is stored in the ~/Library/Mail folder. It can even keep a local copy of all attachments if you go into Mail's Preferences and turn Download Attachments to All for your mail accounts.

If you're using a full-system backup application on a regular basis, such as Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, you already have a local backup of your email.
