So a few nights ago, I helped some friends of mine in a band sell their merchandise after the show. When they showed me they were using a first gen iPad to handle credit card transactions, I shuddered. Assuming this would be a nightmare for both myself and our potential customers, I prepared for the worst.
And let me tell you, that iPad is still plugging along like the day it was purchased, nearly 9 years ago now. I was really impressed. Granted, it is only used for this one specific thing, and if you tried to venture too far outside that use case you’d probably come up disappointed. But for that one thing (and probably a good many others), it is still as reliable as it was almost a decade ago.
We’ve come a long way in the iPad world since then (I’m typing this on my 11” iPad Pro), but the product itself was pretty much fully formed from the jump, and built to last. Cheers to the iPad!
