Thanks for that, my apologies though I didn't mean ogg to mkv, I meant ogg to M4V

My fault sorry,
Stu

I did try Handbrake but it just came up with a message 'no valid source found'

These were desktop video captures taken on Ubuntu 9.04 using gtk-recordMyDesktop

Handbrake certainly seems to recognise it:

[15:18:19] scan: 10 previews, 1680x1040, 15.000 fps, autocrop = 0/0/0/0, aspect 1.62:1, PAR 1:1
[15:18:19] Title is likely interlaced or telecined (10 out of 10 previews). You should do something about that.
[15:18:19] scan: ignoring title 1, no audio tracks found
[15:18:19] libhb: scan thread found 0 valid title(s)
[15:18:20] macgui: ScanDone state received from fHandle
[15:20:47] macgui: trying to open video_ts folder (parent directory chosen)
[15:20:47] hb_scan: path=/Users/stuart/Desktop/WindowsXPSp2IE7MS09_002.ogv, title_index=0
[15:20:47] scan: trying to open with libdvdread
[15:20:47] dvd: not a dvd - trying as a stream/file instead
[theora @ 0x1089600]560 bits left in packet 81
[theora @ 0x1089600]7 bits left in packet 82
Input #0, ogg, from '/Users/stuart/Desktop/WindowsXPSp2IE7MS09_002.ogv':
Duration: 00:05:23.26, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 918 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Invalid Codec type -1
Stream #0.1: Video: theora, yuv420p, 1680x1040, 15.00 tb(r)

But then I get this message repeated a few hundred times...

[theora @ 0x1089600]vp3: first frame not a keyframe

This ogg file plays perfectly in VLC.

Windows???

While handbrake might recognise the container, it does not recognise the theora codec as the bottom 2 log lines tell you.

This ogg file plays perfectly in VLC.

Well if it plays fine in VLC, then why not use VLC to transcode it?

A 2 second yahoo search revealed this:-

YouTube - Transcoding from OGG into MP4 using VLC Media Player

I`m sure if you look you`ll find more.

you might want to try the developer snapshot of HB (assuming you are using 0.9.3). It uses a newer version of ffmpeg for decoding among other things, so it might work on you're file.
