Well I got my black iPhone 3GS back in early August, and a few weeks after getting it my screen developed a hairline crack underneath the phone, as I could not feel it. (Link to that thread) I got my screen replaced and have not had any problems until today...

I got my iPhone out of the case (just a silicone glove sort of thing) to clean it, and noticed this crack developing by my dock connector. I know I have never dropped my phone, and I don't sit on it... just don't understand lol.

Anyway, should I be worried about it and go to apple store (50 miles away (again)), or send it in? Or just leave it until it becomes a bigger problem?

this does not appear to be too major of a problem. so you don't need to return the phone to get a new one. If it becomes a bigger crack or inhibits the phones ability, then you should get a new one.

My has a lot more cracks than you do and I haven't had my phone that long either. It's not so bad.

FWIW, please use TIMG tags.

Apple will replace this if it bothers you.

But I can feel your frustration. My last iPhone had a crack by the toggle switch and the headphone jack and now my second one has the headphone jack crack.

But either way, take it in and get it replaced. However, when you do, you only get 3 months warranty on that phone. So if it was to be replaced, it would only be covered till March

Thats not true. Your warranty from the first phone carries over. OR 90 days whichever is longer.

+1 to that.

OP, I'd just keep your phone if it's working fine for you in all other respects. That crack is nothing, but you may feel differently. But I'd wait to see if anything else goes wrong before I got it replaced.

Then how come my friend who replaced his iPhone bought in December last year replaced it in July due to a crack by the dock connector only had warranty till October?

Either Apple's records show a sale of October. Which can be corrected by showing a proof of purchase. This often happens when the item is bought from a store that isn't apple owned an operated.

Or the genius reading the date was mistaken.

you need to get it replaced, IMO, or it will lose a few pieces and you'll probably have to pay to get it fixed if it's not under warranty one day..
I've tried living with a few cracks but now one's getting worse so I plan on sending it in and have it taken a look at, even though there's pretty much nothing else wrong with it, it's much better than the other 3Gs I've had.
Also, if you can live without it for a few days, just send it in, no need to make that trip yourself

You sure yours's is a 3GS? From this picture, your iPhone's FCC letters at the bottom are not shiny. Here's one.

Yes it's a 3GS... Why would I say it was if it was not?

You just can't see all the letters as that was not what I was focussing on.

Because it's at the dock connector (the area that will see the most stress due to daily plugging and unplugging) I would just nip it in the bud and get it taken care of, as it's only going to get worse. If it were by the silent switch or headphone jack (I use this less often) then I probably wouldn't give it much thought.

And adding onto that.. If you read the thread title it specifically states "3G" cracking issues, not 3GS. Might try reading before you try to act like a smartass. :)

Same plastic.

Stop complaining, to me it's regular wear on a phone. Enjoy your phone and STOP looking for problems.
