Alright.. I'm a total Mac lover, but mac newbie.. I really dont that much about them, but just ordered a 24" iMac...

Then I stumpled across this:

Will I actually get a REMOTE CONTROL for my iMac along with it when I buy it??

Also.. I found a media center application called Plex... would I be able to control that with the remote control as well?!?
 
If it does, it doesn't seem like mine did. It was an option in the build page for another $20, so I doubt it.

And yes, Plex is the best thing and can be controlled by the remote, to an extent. The remote isn't that special.

A Harmony remote would be a lot better (its what I use), or the Logitech DiNovo for Mac's. Amazing Keyboard (also have that).
 
I don't believe so, as it does not say it is included in "what's in the box" part of the iMac page, if the Remote was included they would have mentioned it. They stopped included the Apple Remote with recent Macs. Neither my MacBook pro or my MacBook Air came with remotes. Although both of my previous MacBook Pros did come with remotes.

You used to get the remote, but you don't anymore. However, you still have the built in remote receiver, so you can still buy the remote for 19 bucks and it will work out of the box.
 
Well there were remotes in the refurbished imacs I bought last week.

Which harmony remote would you recommend? Also.. can you get that for something other than infrared.. say bluetooth?

The reason I'm asking is that I plan on attaching a mini-dvi to hdmi and plug the iMac to our large flatscreen as well... They are fairly close, but if I'm lying in the couch, I would be able to aim the remote at the iMac because it's behind a wall... here Bluetooth would help, but I'm not sure that works with the iMac?

Can anyone perhaps elaborate on that?
 
I had the harmony 550. Nice little remote, only problem is they seem to last about 2 years. I had one and a friend had one and both of ours died around the same time. Mind you they both got extensive use and I really did enjoy it so much in that time that I did not feel ripped off at all. I will probably end up picking one up again at some point.
As for the walls being in the way, there are ir blasters I believe they are called that are RF controlled modules that you put wherever the receiver is and it blasts out the infrared signal. Google it you should find something to suit your needs.

I think Logitech has a BT remote now, but its uber expensive. My Harmony Xbox 360 Remote works all the way across the room, even with other stuff between it. Depending on the wall, it may still work. But in that case your best bet is a keyboard like the Logitech DiNovo Mac Edition. It is Bluetooth, rechargeable, and has a mouse trackpad built into it. Awesome range, an amazing keyboard.

Logitech Harmony One, or an 880 are still one of the best things you can buy for your home entertainment system though.
