Agreed. There's no evidence given in the article that suggests this is a hardware issue.
I will say it it slightly funny that the Lumia 900 shipped with a fault considering the "smartphone beta test is over" campaign that's been going on with the device.
Good to see it'll be fixed and about that $100 rebate announced yesterday.

I'm not knocking Nokia for how they've dealt with the issue. They should be complimented for the speed in which they've identified and promised a fix for it.
If only more companies were so swift with faults. (Asus WiFi/GPS issues on the Prime, Google with the SMS bug etc).
Had two iPhone 4's since two days prior to "official" release and never had a dang problem one with reception in any way... Much ado about nothing...also known as "easy to take cheap potshots at market leaders" (see MS, IBM, Intel, and on and on and on...).
I just think it's funny that this is like Nokia's (and MS's for that matter) last ditch effort to win back mind share and they let this happen coming out of the gate. Response or not, at the very least it's a serious pocketbook ding (not like they were going to make near the margin that Apple gets on the iPhone anyway).
All in all, I hope that they do well and put some pressure on both Google and Apple to improve their own smartphone software. I don't think we've seen the "perfect" smartphone OS yet...so competition can only help from a feature/price/innovation standpoint in my mind.

The differences are two-fold.
1) Just because someone else distorted facts absolves you from lying too?
2) Most phones don't suffer from the problems as badly as the iPhone without a case did. There's a reason there was a class-action lawsuit brought against Apple, and there isn't one brought against, oh... any other cellphone manufacturer. You'll note, Apple wasn't able to fix Antennagate with a software update, and had to pay for cases (upto $15) or provide a free bumper. Nokia can just push a software update (which should be here by the 16th).
Bottom line: Quit being an iPhone apologist and accept that the Lumia 900 is a pretty great phone.

And sorry bud...if you bought a Lumia 900 you most certainly bought a stinkin piece of hardware...whether it suffers from an updatable firmware flaw or not.As far as Apple getting sued...well line up next to the next guy dude. Apple is getting sued for the same reason people rob banks...that's where they keep the money. You wanna know how many times Wal-Mart gets sued compared to your ma&pa down the street? Let's just say it's a lot ;-) They got the money dude...plain and simple...and lot's of peeps are jealous. It's more like the "I spilled hot coffee on my lap give me a million" than it is some sort of "real" issue. I got a Cingular 8525 that more problems than any iPhone has ever dreamed of having and me and the other 100 peeps (*hint*that'd be...um not true...or on another planet...humor) that bought that handset never brought suit over it...Apple gets sued (BSgate included) because there's always some prick lawyer looking for a buck somewhere.
So bottom line: Take your MS/Nokia apologizin' and head over to XDA or something and have fun flashing the hardware troubles away

You're ignorant if you think that back in 2006, Apple had more money than Microsoft/Cingular. It has a 4/5 star review on CNet, and you certainly paid for one of the most advanced phones money could buy. If it really didn't work, why didn't you get a replacement, or file a lawsuit?
And I do have a samsung WP7 device, but I've never had any problems with it (except a battery that was dying). So what ROM flashing would you propose I do?

You'd be the ignorant one if you have the slightest bit delusion that Cingular/MS/HTC sold more of those than the number of iPhones that might fall out of a single truck load of an iPhone 3G shipment (god forbid the number of iPhone 4's sold). Sorry dude...by the time the iPhone 4 came out...it was by far and away more of an attractive tort target than any phone MS had ever dreamed of. I could just see counsel jumping all over a lawsuit on a rapidly breaking 8525 screen for the measly couple of thousand peeps that actually ponied up for that thing...yeah right. By the way...it had a 4/5 review because its only competition was a flippin Treo just about at the time...
It's not misinformation...they put out a piece of hardware that was borked... Plain and simple. Are you saying that's not true? And I don't really care about the semantics of "why" they jacked it up out the door by the way...broke is broke. People wanna call out Apple for crap...fair's fair. By the way...for a "software" company...how in the flip could MS let this happen with their flagship phone? Did they not "test" crap before putting it on the market? Or perhaps in their frantic rush to get out the door before all the air is sucked out of the market with new Droids and a new iPhone coming soon that they just...I don't know...screw up?
And...you're the one person on the planet that's never used a cooked ROM on a MS based phone...congrats!
By the way...I've asked this before too...why do flippin' MS and Droid fanboys hang out in a Mac/Apple/IOS joint? Do crazy IOS zealots hang out in XDA and other joints? I know how MS operates...and I know they ain't above buying some love online for whatever market they are trying to break into or take over, and I'm starting to wonder if they've been doing some serious plantin' lately...
And I don't piss and moan about every little stinkin' thing that's not perfect in a piece of electronics like some peeps... Phones are rapidly decaying pieces of tech and if I'm not happy with a phone...I know soon enough that it'll be long gone and replaced by a new gen. Not to mention...I guess you don't remember dealing with Cingular back then...not exactly known for top notch customer service

I'm a fanboy of no one. I have no brand loyalty. Products should serve my needs, I will not serve agendas of a company. I have had a MacBook for the past 5 years and am totally fluent with Windows machines as well since Win95. Ignoring a clear design failure that resulted in a class action settlement (just like the "T" style adapter that I got replaced free of charge this past December) is just choosing to ignore all the facts.
Also, the only reason I have an Android phone is because I'm on Virgin Mobile. $40 for 1200 minutes/unlimited text & data/no tethering charge would run be $90+ on any of the big 3 providers. Dumped VZW to save $45-50/month, never looked back.
If you want to argue about why it was a bad idea to sue MS/Cingular/HTC, go for it. I really don't care. If the phone was that bad, I'm curious why you didn't sue them?
I can assure you I'm no plant. I hang out in this joint because (especially back in 2006) it was a fantastic place where mac lovers could congregate. Now, it's a much more diverse population, but I do like my macbook air, and my iPod Nano. I don't hang out on the XDA forums, so I couldn't speak for the population over there. I don't understand why your panties are all in a bunch over the fact that I called you out on an incorrect title.
Apple made a hardware mistake, Nokia made a software mistake that shipped on certain (not even all) phones. I'd imagine Apple's goof is greater than Nokia's, and you don't see it like that. Let's just leave it at that.
