Apple just exchanged my iMac that had overheated and kept freezing up etc. with a new replacement. We picked it up yesterday after they transferred everything from one iMac to the other. It worked flawlessly all yesterday afternoon. So I though excellent! Everything is good with this one. It didn't get hot, it did freeze up or anything and all was well...until today...

My son just turned it on and nothing...the screen flashed and then just sort of glows, no chime nothing, it just sits there. You could hear the fans start and the drives start but then the screen just sort of glows blue...We shut it down and tried again...same result.

Maybe there is a problem with the iMacs...I am now 2 for 2 in less than 1 week.

I'm not so sure I am liking this iMac now.

I called the Apple Store and they said they will exchange it yet again...now I'm not so sure I want another iMac. This stinks! I have some software licenses that I have to pull off of it so I had to make an appointment at 7:30 tonight with the Genius Bar to see if they can retrieve the license.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience so far. I hope you have better luck with the new new iMac. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. However that really is what it is, really really bad luck. Most would say that they have had no problems with their iMac's. For me it has been the best computer that I have ever owned, but I'm not sure I wouldn't have given up if I had had your experience, the first time that I had bought a mac.
Give the apple store another go, hopefully you wont regret it.

I have had a G5 for about 3 years and never had any trouble with it whatsoever. It's the best computer I've ever owned and I've owned more than I can count over the years; so I do have faith in Macs...I just think I'm hitting on a run of bad ones...perhaps?

About 18 years ago I bought an air conditioner, we installed it, turned it on and it made the most awful sound, like metal hitting metal. Clearly something was terribly wrong with it. We took it back and exchanged it for another one. Got it installed, turned it on and the same thing happened. We looked at it closer and saw that the fan shaft was bent. We took that one back and told the store about the problem with the shaft. So the store opened another box and looked at the shaft on another one, same thing. It turned out that they got an entire shipment of defective units. My point is it might just be a defective batch of iMacs. Although the 2 iMacs seemed to be suffering different symptoms.

I will exchange it one more time and if I have another issue, I guess I will get my son a notebook instead. He didn't want a Notebook but...shrug...He may just have to deal with it.

I would like to believe that the third time will be the charm for you! I had to send my 1st 3ghz iMac back for stuck pixels (100's of em), but the second one has been perfect.

sorry about your mac troubles!

best of luck with the 3rd one... Apple has been great to me with my first purchases with them... I've fallen in love with their customer service.

If it came with 2 memory sticks, remove one and test it, then remove the other one and test it. Change slot's too. Sometimes it's a small thing man.
