ok 2nd macbook....still problems...questions

I just got a replacement macbook yesterday after my last one whined, moo'd, and the case alignment was off. Now today this new macbook has the whine also, but it's also vibrating all the time as if it's accessing the drive.....THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! Mac's are supposed to be superior to crappy windows machines and since I'm a switcher this isnt very impressive. Now I have to go back to the store yet AGAIN and try to get a new one. Do you think they'll let me get another one simply because it whines and has a slight vibration to it?

the vibration is from the harddrive. All laptops vibrate slightly when the harddrive is spinning.

yeah but it's spinning ALL THE TIME. even when I'm not doing anything. the only time it stops is when i close it.

That cna't be normal. The macbooks at the apple store don't spin mad and they are on the entire day.

so if I go up there again on saturday do you think they'll give me another one? and yes I realize that i could have gotten an iBook but it just seemed like old technology and I figured that all the kinks would have gotten worked out with the MBP.

Nonsense, lets see all the problems this person has had I have don't have. Buying something the second it hit the market like a computer plus know the problems the MBP had is just asking for trouble.

I don't recall ever seeing where macs are supposed to be inherently better than their windows counterparts. There's always a risk with buying the first rev of any company's offering, not just Apple's. I wouldn't expect Apple to be able to work out all the kinks before they hit the market, because they simply can't account for every type of problem a user will have.

I too am a switcher (since I haven't owned an Apple machine in over 6-7 years) from the PC world and I've been completely happy with the experience. I'm beginning to feel like people have unrealistic expectations of how their macbooks and macbook pros should perform because they have the notion that they should be inherently better. It's an electronic device, so I wouldn't be surprised if it has a little bit of noise. Fans are going to spin, as are hard drives. It'd be different if there were no moving parts, but as long as there are, we're going to have some noises and movement coming from the machine. It's all the sacrifice you make to have a sleek, thin machine. Something has to give.

Whether it's a Rev. A or not, If they put these machines on the market, a person, such as the OP, should not have to deal with Apple's faulty design/QA team. Buying something the second it comes out doesn't mean you want a crappy product.

We all know that Rev A isn't going to be perfect, but all these problems are just sickening. And surely you know that just because these are the first intel MBs and MBPs, that they dont have to be Rev A units. I've never seen anyone release Rev A design, NEVER.

I agree they are sickening. I just don't understand why someone would buy a MB givin all the problems the MBP had.

I agree with you there about peoples expectations being too high. It seems people are looking for a totally silent laptop with fans that dont make any noise - so they are infact inefficient - while still wanting it to run cool enough to be able to refrigerate their lunch. Im not having a dig at the OP but just in general people are asking way too much of an electronic device.

Hard drives make a noise, if they didnt, they wouldnt work. The more noise a fan makes the more air it is moving and so is more efficient. The faster the processor the higher the temperature the louder the fans. Its quite simple. Some people just dont think logically.

I do appreciate there are genuine problems out there and I do sympathise the owners but cmon think about it people. If you want a totally silent computer buy a calculator. If you want excellent performance buy a mac (complete with almost silent fans).

im not expecting a totally silent computer by any means. my only problem with this mac is that the high-frequency whine it makes and the fact that it's constantly vibrating (but that's not making a noise and it doesn't bother me that much....just concerned). this fan is on too, which doesn't bother me at all. i just wish i could get a computer that doesn't give off a screaching metal sound all the time.

My MacBook Pro is absolutely flawless. It's not like people are going to come on MacRumors to sing the praises of their machines, they're going to come here to discuss and hopefully solve problems they're having. I think they're both excellent machines, and while there are problems with some of them, I would ask you to show me a manufacturer who doesn't have problems with their machines.
