So Apple think by removing the headphone jack & forcing its users to jump on the Airpods is a thing.

They've thought this for a few years now & the Airpods have been a great accessory during that period of time.

& this year, Apple have decided to remove the Lightning-3.5mm Headphone jack dongle.

So they've stiffed their customers by charging high prices, without including accessories in the box as they have in the past.

It all points to a wireless future.

So, what I think, from a consumer point of view, is that it's time Apple started including Airpods with their iPhones starting in 2019.

They owe their market this, for sticking with them & tolerating being charged high prices for a trend that clearly aims to force them to go wireless, yet denying dongles that enable wired headphone connectivity.

Thoughts?

As amazing as that would be, I don’t think they’ll do it any time soon. There’s already a lot of demand for AirPods and they have no need to give them away. Frankly I’m kind of surprised they even include headphones in the box at all.

On the other hand, it would be crazy how many AirPods we’d see in the wild if every iPhone user received a pair with their iPhone.

They will ... my prediction is within 10-15 years... :p

Natural progression heading towards that slab of glass design!

If everything is heading towards being truly wireless, I would expect at some point in the future the cost of manufacturing "cheap" wireless buds would allow them to be included???

I hope not. If you want AirPods just buy them.

I don’t want the cost of the device going up because it now comes with wireless headphones I already own.

It’s the same thing as the power adaptor complaints. All this complaining about lack of a fast charger etc. I have fast chargers now - why would I want more when all that means is I have to dispose of them somehow? Why would I want to pay a higher price for that? I haven’t taken the power adaptor, lightning cable or headphones out of an apple product box in years. The ones I have still work perfectly fine from the iphone 5 days. I have seen that the leads fray etc, but I haven’t personally experienced that. I don’t know if the quality has changed in recent years or something.

I’m all for potentially ‘bundling’ these things as an option, but I don’t think it should be the one and only option, too much wastage. The device should come with the minimal amount that is required to use it. It does this and more with the lightning headphones.

It’s almost the same as the watch - it would be really nice if Apple gave the option of purchasing the watch without a band.

It's not happening. They removed the dongle for 2 reasons, primarily
A. For consumers to pay for the dongle
B. For consumers to pay for AirPods
Because, Apple has reached the trillion $ mark, expect to pay for accessories, and higher costs for their products. Apple knows consumers will pay. Only when Apple begins to suffer in profits, will Apple then begin to package these products together.

But what if the Airpods added no extra expense? I'm saying if Apple want to encourage a wireless Bluetooth-based ecosystem, & charge the same as last year, as they have, then include the Airpods.

They will include AirPods in the box approximately 10 years after they give us a fast charger in the box.

Yes! Exactly my thinking...
People who buy iPhones every year ( not me ) don’t need new AirPods every year... and if apple includes them, the phone would be just 160$ or so more expensive... So there really is no point for doing it.
Offering a bundle though would be a sweet idea... it would also save resources! ( even I don’t need a new power adapter or lightning cable this year...)

Maybe in this alternate reality universe they can give users a choice of AirPods or an Apple Watch
That way those with AirPods aren't stuck with another set
At no extra expense of course

You expect Apple to take a ~$12B hit to their profitability on an annual basis to provide AirPods in every box? They sell around 200M iPhones a year, and if you assume their total costs for the AirPods are around $60 a piece, well....

Even if you say only for the X* models -- that is a direct $6B hit to profitability.

I already own AirPods so could care less. How about they freaking release AirPower. Talk about an absolute embarrassment for them...

I'm willing to bet that the general public has completely forgotten about AirPower. We haven't because we want it. The average consumer probably forgot a week after the event.

There is no encouragement to go wireless, especially when they still include wired EarPods in the box. Apple encourages you to spend your hard earned to pay for AirPods, because its a business and they want your money.

They stopped including a dongle in the box. The odds of them including free AirPods are zero.

They don’t even include fast charging. Would want that before AirPods.

They don’t even include fast charging, that should be included first before anything. But if they won’t even do fast charging which is cheaper than getting AirPods included is like having sex in the Champaign room, it never happens!!!
