I want to turn my DVD collection into AAC style files :)

Can someone please write an app...point me to an excisting app?

AAC is known, in longer terms, as Advanced Audio Codec. note the AUDIO.

if you want your dvds to play only on your computer then you want to encode them as DIVX files , generally making them about the file size of a CD. look here and here.

you can't burn AAC video because it's an audio codec. BUT if you are looking to just burn the sound from your DVDs to AAC this can be done rather easily. infact there is an AppleScript that will do it for you. can't remember where i saw it. search around and you'll find it. if not, you could always use WireTap or Audio Hijack. be prepared to take up alot of disk space with the raw audio though.

thx for links...

I know about the AUDIO in AAC... :)

What I meant was that I would love a program like iTunes but for Video that would rip DVD into a good quality format so I dont have to carry tons of DVDs with me when I go away...

all the existing programs make it a real chore to RIP DVD :(

erm, that's because most applications for DVD copying are illegal. Not too many developers are going to spend that kind of time creating a product that WILL be pirated anyway, all the while risking some major lawsuits. It's a nice idea, and I've thought about it myself, but some things just aren't gonna happen anytime soon...

unless Apple comes out with a wireless TV solution, in which case a DVD library might come along... Think iFlick.

The app "Forty Two" makes it very easy to make backups of DVDs
