Ok, I'm buying a MacBook in the morning... How do I find the serial number?

I'm getting a MacBook in the morning :)

But I do want to know how I can find the serial. Is the only way opening the box and looking at the unit itself? The reason I want to see the serial number is because I'd like to get one that's made recently - more chance of getting a good one.

(P.S... Black or white?! :D)

Also, turn it on, go to "about this mac" under the big blue apple, and click on the words between "Mac OS X" and software update bubble.

(PS. get black. It's hoootttt!!!)
 
Yep, it is on the UPC code.

When you go in to buy it, you might need to tell the representative how to find the most recent ones. When i bought mine, the person who assisted me did not seem to know that the serial number corresponds to the week it was manufacterered.


Go BLACK. It definitely looks alot better. Just remember to keep a fine cloth handy, to wipe away the oils from time to time. :D

Mooo, everyone! I got the black MacBook, and it's perfect! It's a 4H625. :D Sooo sexy! It does get a little hot on the upper left portion of the keyboard, near the power adapter. But so far it's not hot enough to bother me. I'm not planning to use it on my lap anyway.

What's interesting though, is that my MacBook came with 1 GB of RAM... Thought it only came with 512 MB? Well it was a nice surprise when I opened up About My Mac... Silent update maybe?

if you've noticed, the word "laptop" has left the computing world. "notebook" Not for your lap. I take it you plan on having kids? :p :p

I just checked apple.com.. it still says it comes with 512. You sure you didn't accidentally pay for a bump?

and I loooove rendering clerks "dumbfounded" It makes a great look on their face. :D

..did you get black or white? :D

Looking at the receipt, you're right... Bastards. Oh well, $100 isn't THAT bad for 1 GB.

Does anyone know how to check the most recent build-week for MBP and MB? When I buy a MBP or MB, I would like to check the serial # at the store so that I can buy the most recently built machine. It seems recently built units are not exhibiting too much of the earlier problems such as excessive heat and noises.

i like the black. but i would have gone white if i got a macbook.

i got a macbook pro instead, and it only came in the silver... which i loovvvee

You can actually tell the week your machine left the assembly line from its serial :)

If you will post it here some expert will help you with it.

Its actually $100 for 512mb. Coz you had already paid for 512mb with the cost of the MB. :rolleyes:
