hey,
i have a 2.16 mbp with 2gb of ram, 100gb 7200rpm hard drive with 10.4.10. It has always been fine, but suddenly, it is always slow and crashy.
specifically, it takes a long, long time to boot. probably around 3x or 5x the normal length of my macbook. also, it usually runs ok, but expose and dashboard bring it to a crawl, where it freezes up for sometimes around 4 minutes. its really awful, obviously. it also takes about 2x as long to turn off. general use is ok, but graphic intense applications cause such long freezes. my airport also is destroyed, but thats related to 10.4.10 and not what im concernes about right now...
the only potential causes i can think are that i have had bootcamp installed (but ive had it for a long time, the problem is new), and that my hard drive is somewhat full.
at one point i accidently let my hard drive only have 1gb space left, but this was after the problem already started. i brought it down to 10gb of free space and the problem has not alleviated or been made better at all.
i am sure there are a lot of things to check and do so just list them and i can see if anything helps. i really dont want to reinstall osx, seems like a windows thing to do, and i dont have backup solution readily available etc. any help you can give is great! thanks so much
