OK, so I found an amazing deal on a MBA, i got if with applecare and superdrive for $700, in box with all accessories. I have absolutely no need for a laptop. my iphone and imac work wonderfully. I know that this is such a good deal, I could not pass up. do you think it was stupid of me to buy something i really dont need just because of the price?
thanks!

You won't appreciate the Air until you use it for a while. No one needs another laptop, but having one that you can take everywhere is Super. At that price, you should use it for a few years and then give it away to someone who needs a GREAT laptop (maybe a PC person). This way you get to enjoy it and will be doing a good thing for someone in need. :)

see, thats kinda what I was thinking. that, i can just throw it around, and not worry, almost like a really nice disposable laptop, that someone can have in 2 years. do you think the air will keep up with apple that long?

For most people, the Air is a luxury, even in two years.

stolen?

no, I would not buy stolen goods. it is off of craigslist however. It come with the apple care, the superdrive, the Air and the box & accessories. therefor I do not think it is stolen.
You think in 2 years, people will consider this gen 1 air a luxury? you dont think it will be SIGNIFICANTLY outdated by then?

what makes you think that since it has applecare and superdrive that it is not stolen? Superdrive can easily be bought from the internet to make it look legit and the apple care might from the original owner. I'm just saying that a perfectly sane person would not sell a perfectly working MBA with applecare and superdrive for $700 if they can sell it in ebay for $1200 and up.

Let's think of it this way. Would someone who paid 1899 for their macbook air sell it for $700? Unless they were super generous or the MBA was giving them problems, i don't think so.

The apple care and super drive don't make a difference.

Here in Toronto, there was a guy who was selling his MBA on craigslist for 1500, and when he when to meet the buyer he was robbed. The MBA was in box, under warranty, and had the super drive.

The robber tried off-loading the MBA later again on craigslist for 1100. And it appeared totally legit. It had original box, install disks, manuals etc.

See even the robber has more sense to ask for more than 700.

So i'm doubtful. In any case, enjoy your new laptop, not sure why you need us to justify your purchase for you. ;)

+1. I agree...may be the owner spilled a cup of coffee on it already?

If you can get one for $700, then do it. I didn't NEED to upgrade from my MB to the Air, but this is so much better for campus and carrying all the time.

As far as being outdated, I don't think that will happen within a few years. I didn't buy this thinking that it would be outdated in a year or two. Maybe the HD space and Processor may be continually improved, or other performance boosts (new graphics cards) may come along, but the computer won't get any heavier, and OSX 10.6 will just speed things up.

I'm keeping mine awhile.

that is such a good idea, im so in love with how thin it is though. what a decision. btw, i dont NEED to have everyone justify my decision, but hearing others opinions is reassuring. The guy works for a mac repair store, maybe thats how he got it. from melrose mac?
sell it on ebay for $1300 and buy a new MB, 2GHz for $1299.

I would be worry about getting robbed when you go and pick it up. Happens here all the time in San Francisco. Especially with Apple products.

No matter how slow the Air may be to us in two years, it will always be faster/better than any currrent/near future model Net Book. Besides, the Air is WAY sexier than a Net Book. :)

Will the Air outlast snow leopard?

btw, I got it today, and it works nicely. came with everything but the box. I know some of you here think it may have been stolen. I took it to an apple store, and it was registered to the person i bought it from. for whatever sake that means,

the last few times I've bought and sold computers on craigslist, we've literally met in the bank... He withdrew the money, and I deposited the money, all within sight of the millions of security cameras... seemed to be the best way to do it and the banks could care less.
