I'm surprised there's not a flux of complaints about the damn Mac Drivers that Apple provided with Boot Camp. I haven't managed to install them successfully yet.

The first time, it hanged during installation, and I had to end task it. When I tried the installation again, it b0rked the system, and it wouldn't work right afterwards.

Reinstalled Windows.

This time, the drivers installed fine, I hit restart, Windows restarts... to a blank screen. Had to hard-reboot. Got into Windows, but graphics wouldn't work right (only 256 colors).

Reinstalled Windows.

This time, the Mac Driver installation actually crashed Windows, sending me to a BSOD, and Windows reboots automatically, and upon arriving at the Windows desktop, I get the "you have just recovered from a serious error" dialog. And now my keyboard and trackpad wouldn't work. Had to use my USB keyboard to navigate to get the computer to restart.

Seriously, what's up with this bullcrap? This all happens during the "registering product" part of the installation, and I've learned to dread that portion.

well, it's not endemic... I have installed on Minis, iMacs and MacBooks and have never yet had the basic by-the-book install fail.

However have never got Windows to behave with a wireless keyboard, gave that up as a waste of time.

There have been some complaints about problems with Bootcamp. I have personally witnessed and completed windows installations with Bootcamp 5 times on 5 different macs (2 MacBooks, 2 MacBook pros, and 1 iMac) and they all went as smooth as a Windows installation can be.

I'm not sure what could be causing the issues you are having, especially since it seems to be different issues every time. It is a lot easier to diagnose the problem if it is the same problem occurring every time.

Hmm, same thing happened to me. I just kept trying different things until it worked. Don't remember what it was that I did though. I think I copied the drivers onto a USB drive, and installed them from there.

I finally got it to install. I installed it, it hanged during install, had to end task it. Restarted, and reinstalled, and finally that worked.

Apple needs to fix that installer

Ditto. Did the same. In fact, just rebooting and reinstalling drivers did the trick for me. You also need to make sure you are using the latest version of the bootcamp drivers.

Remember, bootcamp is still beta (so its gonna have quirks).

problem with win xp and bootcamp

Is there any place that I can download a copy or ISO image of the driver disk that bootcamp creates? I cannot get my mac mini to recognize my mac os x install disk. It has no problem reading a windows disc. So I have windows xp installed and running but no sound , no wi-fi etc... I have a copy of the bootcamp program but cannot read it using windows.
Thanks, Sable

I've been thinking about a couple of solutions to your problem. If your mini won't recognize your os x install disc have you tried to boot holding down C after the chime or holding down the ALT key with the OS X install disc in the drive?

You could convert the bootcamp dmg to an iso, but I doubt that would be helpful as the bootcamp installer is an mpkg (OS X install disc).

You might also try looking at sites like driverguide or using a windows program that will detect your hardware and provide you with a list of drivers to install. Here's one example that is freeware, but I haven't tried it.

I have tried both of your suggestions. They did not help. I finally track down someone who had a portable drive with firewire connect. I thought this would do the trick - well I was wrong it would even recognize the drive. I am assuming that without the drives for the firewire im SOL. I just read somewhere that once you partition a drive with NTFS you can no longer use the drive with a MAC? Is this true? I dont see how that could be possible. There must be a way to get this drive back to MAC format. I installed WIN xp Servpak2 back on the drive so I had some OS on it . I left half the drive unpartitioned. Does any one know how to get teh sound or the airport wireless working under windows?

For those of you interested, I have found a solution to the problem.

Apparently there is some sort of incompatibility with the Apple Keyboard drivers and Windows. So, when you are installing the boot camp drivers, SKIP any installation that involves "Apple Keyboard Support", but install everything else, and it should work fine. The drivers that say "Apple Keyboard Trackpad" should also be fine to install.

You won't have some useful features, like the eject and volume keys, but everything else, including the trackpad and right-click should work fine.

Hope this helps some of you.

If you have the install disk that came with your mini boot up while holding down the option key and you should see windows and the install disk.
Click on the install disk and re-install OS X..

I have installed Windows w/ bootcamp 3 times. 2 iMac Core Duos, and my Mac Pro.

The wireless keyboard on the Mac Pro can get annoying, but if you turn it off for a few seconds, then turn it back on Windows will recognize it in a few moments. The volume and eject keys won't work on the wireless keyboard, but will work on a wired one.

I have not had to revamp my Windows installations.
