Yeah but I assume this is the next step in the Galaxy Camera line rather than a 'camera-phone'.
But yeah Samsung do like disseminating it's brand (which was one of the reasons the stock market dipped the other day over the worry that they were diluting the S4 with too many spinoffs).
At least they aren't calling it the S4 NX. So like I say I assume it doesn't have the phone part and this is just the evolution of the galaxy camera.
I did think about buying the Galaxy Camera though a while back as it is a good camera for point and click (it was just too much € for me to justify, but price might drop now newer models enter the fray).

]i dont get what your on about. Whats so bad about it? android had huge potential in cameras imo. Doesn't mean the early versions will be great but im surr in the future phones and cameras will just merge. uploading directly to the cloud makes more sense than downloading to your computer first no? are you just jumping on the anti Samsung bandwagon?

Kudos for Samsung, why so much hate for a Korean company that just wants to keep this market alive and interesting, like the poster above me said at least they are trying new things......even if that pic is fake.
^ yeah like I say its just an extension of the galaxy camera they already went down but with better flash and interchangeable lens. Yes it's a niche market but its not a smart phone or intended to be one, so this to me makes more sense than the S4 zoom.
The camera features on the Galaxy camera are really quite cool when I had a brief play with one in store. So much so I was sorely tempted but just couldn't justify €500 on it.

Yeah but they don't make android devices or have the android software. Samsung can branch out as an extension of both their camera division and their cellular division, mixing elements of the two as the resources are already there.

Its basically an international S3 with phone removed and camera grafted on. It is quite tempting but when you see it in person its a lot bigger than you'd think, but still cool.
Not hating, just curious as to the advantage of having Android and cellular data capabilities on this type of high end camera? I understand the merits of being able to upload directly to photo sharing sites but we're not talking about small files with a camera like this so you're looking at pretty significant amounts of data, unless you reduce the photo quality, thus defeating the benefit of such connectivity. Is there really that much demand for what seems to me to be a very limited niche? Serious, any photographers who find this product intriguing, pleas chime in, I'm honestly curious.
Well we have a 50mp €22,000 digital Hasselblad Camera & lenses in our studio. ( Personally i dont like it. File size is huge and its so good at capturing detail every pore on your skin is there for scrutiny. Its actually made photoshopping far more important because there are so many more flaws you have to remove on a person with such extreme detail being caught). Its a niche product too, but clearly there is a market for high priced items like this. I doubt they expect to sell mass volume akin to a smartphone.
I'm with Chaz on this one. I can understand Samsung expanding their portfolio but as a hardcore photographer, why would you want to invest in this instead of a cannon or Nikon?

Too much focus on the screen/OS. A camera shouldn't be an all-in-one device. I'm not about to surf the net on a camera.
Could you imagine if this happened to high end dSLRs and wedding photographers were surfing the web and they miss the first kiss or something.
Some people prefer the in body IS as opposed to the in lens IS. While it does make every lens an IS lens, the IS is not designed for any particular focal length and you can't see the effect of IS in the view finder, which helps if you need to manually adjust focus. Sorry, I guess I went off topic.

It's an interesting development, but, I need to make adjustments to my camera with my eye at the viewfinder. You couldn't do that with this camera. It will never appeal to the more serious hobbyists because of this and the lack of quality lenses and the touch screen gimmickry, which is not proving that popular for Canon on their recent releases.

Was precisely my thinking. I'm really not familiar with the quality of Samsung's cameras so didn't want to jump to conclusions--could see some added benefit if camera quality was comparable to other quality brands but having Android/cellular data doesn't make up for subpar camera performance.

A much better solution in my opinion is just to get a wifi enabled SD card. They've been out for years. It's not like you can even see the full resolution of the photos you could take with a camera like this on the screen, so it doesn't make much sense to me. Just one more thing to worry about software updates on.
It isn't competing against Canikon DSLRs, it's going against mirrorless cameras like the Nex and Oly line.
Most touchscreen cameras have dog crap software powering things.

Way too short on hardware buttons, even for a touch screen camera. A d-pad and a AF/AE lock button would've been nice.
There's android powered car stereo's now. I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung will, or does make one. Samsung isn't Apple, like many large asian corporations, they make a huge variety of products. They got their start selling groceries and noodles. Are you really going to complain about them making a camera?
Quite. I go with the system that offers the best choice of lenses, not a smartphone interface slapped on the back of the body. Its also nice to retain some of the mechanical elements of a DSLR too IMO.
My hat goes off to Samsung for trying, but this isn't going to take over the camera market and topple the long terms giants Canon and Nikon in all seriousness.
