my iMac it isn't connected to my MBP too?

Sorry - new to Macs.

Not sure what you're asking. In my case, I have my iMac connected to my display via thunderbolt at all times, i have no problem.

I mean if it is not connected to one device is it okay to leave plugged into the other? Does that make sense? Thx.

You mean just leave the cable plugged in on the computer but not on any device - yeah that's ok. I do that all the time with my iPhone cable.

It should be fine just hanging there ... however, do not be alarmed that the connector will feel warm as the internal line-drivers are still powered up at the plugged-in connection.
