iPod Old 2003 3rd Gen iPod crash... anyway to recover?

I dropped it about 3 feet from a desk and poor think...I think the old hard drive finally died. But I got some songs on it that I need!

So, anyone know how to restart the ipod in the menu/test menu? This kind has the four buttons on top and a touch menu wheel. I forget what combination that it is.

I don't think it will ever play again, but if i get it to start in that menu screen perhaps I can get it to mount on my old OS 9.2 and rip the files (hopefully).
