Hey guys, my girlfriend has an iPhone and I just bought her an iPad mini for Christmas. Now, she has her Apple ID which is an @hotmail.com address which she created a long time ago, and she recently signed up for an @icloud email address. They don't seem to be connected together directly at all because while I was setting her iPad Mini up for the first time, she wanted to use her @icloud address as her Apple ID, but I told her that they weren't linked so her purchased Apps and such wouldn't be accessible on both devices.

If you're still following, what I want to know is, is there a way for me to link the two Apple ID's together? She wants to drop the @hotmail address from her Apple ID and only use the @icloud one from now on but I can't figure out how to either change the address to an icloud one or associate the two together.

Anybody able to help or is this just not possible?

Bah, that's a shame.

What she could is add her @hotmail.com iCloud account to her device and then flip on the mail toggle. It will prompt her create an icloud.com e-mail address. If she can find one she likes she can use that one going forward and then her accounts are all synced up. From there she can login to appleid.apple.com and update her AppleID and primary e-mail address to her new icloud.com address.

The only time you run into a problem with this is if you try to merge two existing Apple IDs.

She will have both accounts on the device. But they won't merge.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that. But it's funny, I remember back when MobileMe first came out, I somehow managed to link my MobileMe account to my Apple ID which is a gmail based one.

MobileMe customers were allowed to merge once iCloud came out and MobileMe was on its deathbed.

MobileMe users had their accounts converted to iCloud accounts, but you cannot, to this point, merge two seperate AppleIDs.
