OLD Apple TV and 5.1 sound

Ok people...time for help here.

Ive got a mix of old and new apple tvs, and I'm encoding using the latest HB Nightly Build High Profile setting.

?....Does the old atv support 5.1 sound??? Because everything ive been encoding with the new setting, will not play on the old atvs. But I thought it did support 5.1. I understand the difference in capabilities regarding video size /rates etc. But sound Im not clear on.

Can someone set me straight here?

The old Apple TV does support 5.1 sound. However it does not support High Profile encoding from what I understand.

yes, I made the mistake of encoding a few of my movies in high profile, and it locks my ATV1's up.

Actually, my ATV1s dont even see those movies. And for atvs Ive synced content to, itunes refuses to even try and put them their.

There might be another setting that I had that the ATV1 doesnt like then. These were blu ray mkv files that I transcoded.

I do transcoding on 3 different machines, so its hard to remember which setting I used on what movies on what system....
