I got a deal on a 15in 2015MBP and it is still with almost half year warranty left. The AppleCare+ is not applicable as you need to get it in first 2 months. I found a seller on ebay who offered the previous version AppleCare. Not until I purchased it for ca. $230 using a coupon off, he revealed that he prefers me to send name, email and serial number to him so he per his preference can register it with Apple, because "some of our customers have had challenges doing it themselves. " He also offered shipping it (but marked the auction as shipped)

I have a strange vibe about it. Can it be somebody who has an access to Apple database and in fact does not have the real product ? He has 100% feedback.
Why would there be problem registering AppleCare (not plus) at this time, are you aware of any restrictions ?

Not sure I understand? You're willing to pay $230 Canadian for Apple Care that's only good for 6 months? If that's for real, I would say give it a pass as it's not worth it. Also, I wouldn't trust what he's telling you. Have him ship it to you first and then you register it with Apple. That way, you'll know for sure if the Apple Care he's selling is real or a counterfeit.

No, US $. Apple Care is 2 addtl. years

Not for a 2015 15" MacBook Pro purchased from a third party who is not an authorized Apple reseller. Make sure you obtain the serial number for that machine before purchasing it. Once you have the serial number you can check with Apple to see if it is eligible for Apple Care. I suspect it is not.

It's very possible that the Macbook is still eligible for Applecare. Although, I would register for it yourself and not through the seller. It's very possible that the seller already has Applecare on it and is trying to squeeze out some more money.

You can’t extend the current AppleCare by buying it again.

It’s 2018, so a 2015 MacBook Pro with half a year of warranty left has already had the two year AppleCare purchased for it when it was new.

Why are you purchasing AppleCare again?

The OP said the computer had 6 months of warranty left, not AppleCare. Apple sold 2015 MacBook Pros new until a few weeks ago, and still has refurbished models for sale periodically.

You're being scammed. No doubt about it. You'll never receive the proof of AppleCare document from Apple.

I'm in Canada.

I have purchased AppleCare+ for iPhones and iPads and have never been asked to provide proof that these devices are entitled to AppleCare+ warranty. I even purchased a used iPhone that had about 3 months AppleCare+ left. The phone developed a problem, took it to the Apple Store, and they replaced it with a refurb, no questions asked.

Perhaps it is different in other countries?

The only way you can purchase Apple Care on a used Macintosh is of you buy it through the refurb store or an authorized reseller as far as I know. I have purchased it on a new Macbook Pro through BH Photo and it was honored, but the laptop again was purchased through the refurb store.
