Definitely worth it. The sit looks legit. Weird BTO though. It's 120GB's but has Tiger installed, I wonder why not Leopard.

That's about what they're going for used. However, you can get the refurbs on apple's website for like $419 without a warranty. But that might be the 1.83Ghz. However it would come with leopard so, catch 22.

They have a store close by and I can pick up. The specs are little bit weird. But I figure it is a typo. I've heard people bought it and it has leopard instead of tiger installed.

Micro Center is definitely legit; I've bought lots of parts for my Whitebox PC there. Great prices!

microcenter is definitely legit.

whether this deal is worth it or not depends on two things, IMO:
1) Do you need more than 2 GB of RAM?
2) Do you need a GPU better than the GMA 950?

I mean, it's a good price, don't get me wrong, but for my uses (I'm just speaking personally here; we all have different needs when it comes to computers) those two factors limit the machine so badly that I'd be hard-pressed to put it to good use, no matter how good the price was.

Its actually 3.3 gigs of ram. I have the old model and have had itunes, handbrake and firefox all running together and have never had a problem. I dont set any land speed records with my encodes(using HB on a full length film takes about three hours), but for 400.00 thats a steal

thanks all for the response. It is confirmed has leopard installed. And has ilife09 disc as well, two, indeed. Don't know why...

I am typing this on my brand new 20" March 2009 iMac purchased yesterday (but opened and set up this evening) from the local MicroCenter. I've bought plenty of PC stuff from there before, as well as my better half's MacBook, and so when it came time to for me to demote Windows to a virtual shell of its prior self, running under the control of a quality OS, I took advantage of the $200 rebate available thru yesterday.

I've noticed that while the ad ending yesterday was for new models, the current ad is for the prior generation - just a head's up.

Wow! Definitely go for it! Super good deal there!
Even better that it's legit, as verified by other post on this thread.

Ah, I forgot you could go up to 3.3 GB on the older mini. So much the better!

Lol. Such an odd number. So what ram would you get? A 3GB and 300MB?

The intel chipset had a limitation on ram. Apple officially only said 2 but if you put in 2x2 the mini will recognize all 4 but the chipset can only use about 3 and change.

Actually, only integers can be odd or even. 3.3 is a decimal fraction, not an integer. Besides, 3+3=6 which is even. If you look hard enough, there's meaning behind even seemingly arbitrary phenomena.

I hope this post was in jest... I do hope you know that there are other definitions of 'odd.' But, if it was in jest, I did laugh at it. :)

UGHHHH

I was gonna get this and decided now to.
Now I'm gonna end up paying 60 bucks more and getting the 1.83 version.

Darn.

why not get a low spec'd solo core machine for around 245 - and upgrade the processor to a 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo for another 200 and have a faster machine?

I picked up one of these. Works fine.

My real question is, for my use, what might it not handle that the new model will?

I'll be using it *solely* as an HTPC, driving a 50" plasma. I've got an HD camcorder that records AVCHD movies. I'd like to be able to play them back without a lot of hassles. Is the previous gen mini up to the tasks?

If not then I can return this one and trade up to the newer model.
