Yellow! :)

My sport companion old Ipod shuffle was involved in freacky accident and the result is broken copper foil which connects USB plug to the chipset. It is almost impossible to repair it without replacement part.

It was my Buddy in battle for many years and I immediately bought his younger brother 2 GB but still I am emotionally attached to Buddy and I would like to give him new life. It's an :apple: for Christ's sake.

In Europe is hard to get Mac spare parts especially so old ones and I am asking you if you know any low price solution for usb plug and this foil 'cos I would like to donate old Shuffle to some kids and to plant a new Apple seeds. :apple:

Thanks for ... anything :D

Hi - Old Lady here with no shortage of shuffle ideas.

I get the picture that this is a 1st generation shuffle you're describing? I don't have one of those, so I'm going to babble blindly here . . .

If you can get to an electronic parts store on a slow day and bring your shuffle and your story along, you might get someone interested in scrounging an acceptable replacement coil for you, and probably for free. Electronics junkies like myself adore a challenge (if we're in the right mood) and can labor for hours fiddling with a hopeless cause, just because we like to.

A Mom & Pop electronics store is best, but those are rare at least where I live. The clerks at a chain store like Best Buy might be able to direct you to one.

Best of luck! If a copper coil is really all that's needed, it doesn't sound impossible. Look at it this way: Your copper coil is out there somewhere and your job is to find it! :)

Good advice and great spirit

Thanks YoungGirlwithiPod,

I am working in a company that produces electronic roulettes and I had couple of hardware guys botherd for the job. It is very difficult, old Shuffle has an electronic circuits build into the pedestal of the plug and in additon this thin and narrow copper foil has instead of normal 4 (+,-, data in, out) unbelivable 10 connections.
If it wouldn't be this way would be easy to connect a new plug, but this closed, ascetic and slim Apple design and architecture makes it almost impossible to repair it without original spare part.

Shuffle was then the smallest and repairing was the price for it. Today is again smallest, but at least cannot be broken in the same way like older :)

We'll keep looking ahead till we reach our goal ... or get blind by doining it! :D

If I'm going to stay to much time on theeeeeese forums I might change my Windoze/Linux configuration to M...... :apple:

memory stick?

will it still work as a memory stick?

they're always useful.

Were u able to find the 'copper foil' which connects USB plug to the chipset of ipod shuffle(1st generation)?
Even my shuffle is suffering with the same problem :(
If u did find one, let me know where n how?

I'd like to hear how this worked out, too. I'm in one of my periodic electronic experimentation moods again.
