Hi all,

I just fitted a wifi card in a friends mac pro (not sure if its the one of the early mac pros or one of the late G5 machines) and when booted up after, its not picking up any wifi networks at all.

The Airport menu bar icon shows up but it just scans for wireless networks without any results. He's tried it at home on his wifi and I've tried it with mine and still no joy. I can usually pick up 4 or 5 wifi networks from my house and it doesn't find any.

I've went through a few things in Network Utility last night, can't remember specifics without it in front of me but again had no luck with that.

I've attached an image showing the wifi card. Is this an Airport Extreme card? The guy had ordered the card himself and brought both the tower
and card to me to fit.

Also, the machine is running 10.6.8 iirc.

Can anybody recommend anything I should check or try to get this working? Is there any software I need to install? Like a driver or anything?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Ha! Shows how much I know!

Where might one find said antennas? Should the leads be in the tower somewhere do would I need to order them?

Think that's a 3,1 or earlier. If you have wifi pre wiring the cable ends will be tucked up near sled 2 SATA slot at the top of your picture. They could be behind sled 1 so you may have to take the big grey fan bracket out pictured on the left to get at them if you can't prise them out.

Can't read the numbers on the airport card to find out exactly which model because of the flash on the camera.

Yeah, I only realised how ***** the picture was after attaching it. Cheers anyway! Will check this out when I get home from work. Hopefully that'll be it sorted.

If you have got pre wiring - sorted. The antenna ends are have black tags with numbers on 1-4. Running new antenna cables is a right PITA.

Google "mac pro wifi install" and you'll find pictures and videos.

Antenna connectors are sometimes hidden under the logic board. All MPs have factory fitted wiring. Look on the left side of front fan (as Gav said) or under the board near SATA connector of bay #2.
