Old MiniDV to current iMovie - best practices?

I have a bunch of old clips taken in miniDV format. I've imported these, and now I have them in clip.dv files that I can view in Quicktime and, it appears, open in iMovie.

Looking to retain the best quality (recognizing this is pre-HD) for when I turn into movies using iMovie. Any best practices?
