I'm considering getting a 15" MacBook Pro and a store I'm looking at offers two different models -- MA464LL/A and MA601LL/A, which have identical specs but the latter is $500 more expensive. Does anyone know what the differences between these models would be? I think I heard that two different generations of MacBook Pros were released, maybe the latter model is the newer generation? If so, what has been improved between the two generation?

If Amazon.com can be trusted on matters like these (I think so), MA601LL/A has a 2.16 GHz processor whereas MA464LL/A has a 2.00 GHz processor. That would be the main difference.

The 601 is the standard 2.16 GHz model with a single 1 GB stick of RAM and a 100 GB hard drive. The 464 is the 2.0 GHz model upgraded to a single 1 GB stick of RAM and the 100 GB hard drive.

The price difference between the two should only be $200, so whatever site you're looking at either has a good deal on the upgraded 2.0 GHz model or a bad deal on the standard 2.16 GHz model. Or they don't know what they're talking about.

My guess is the 464 is the first best 15"
a 2 Ghz proc, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB VRAM
The 601 is the same -newer- with a faster proc (2.18).

I will be able to be sure on saturday. If this isn't cleared up by then.

The 2.16 also has 256MB of VRAM and the 2.00 has 128MB, I think.
indeed, now.
Before they upgraded the processors the 2.0 had the 256 and the 1.8x the 128.

Ah yes, I'd misread the site. The 601 is 2.16GHz. In addition to the 464 and 601, the store also has the 600 at the same price as the 464, but the 600 is listed as 2.0GHz, 128MB VRAM, and only an 80GB drive. The 464 is listed as 2.0GHz, 256MB VRAM, and a 100GB drive. This makes me think that perhaps the 464 might be an older model that has more heat and noise problems?

I don't know what the diffrence is, but IF one is more expensive and is a new "Revision" then the fixes would be the heat, moos, and whines.

What are "moos"?
