iPod old school ipod 20gb prob

i have had this Ipod forever and i am not just ready to throw it away. the problem is that when you turn it on after it has gone into deep sleep/fully turned off it comes back on with the sick apple ipod logo. i have taken it apart and disconnected the audio output and then it boots. is it the hold switch or is it the hard drive it self. i have run the scans and it has found no errors. i hate to have to open it up every time i want to use it. any suggestion

Go buy the part from www.ifixit.com and replace it?
