Old Software

Hey, I'm not sure what else to put this under, but I DO need some help.... I'm selling some older iMac's (G3, 600Mhz, Graphite SE) and I would like to bundle some word processing software on it... does anyone know if Office 98 has yet been classified as Abandonware, or of any other office/word type program I can LEGALLY put on there?

there is no such thing as old software.

if something written years ago still works today, than by definition that software is alive and kicking.

frankly i don't think microsoft cares about a single office 98 for mac lisence.

i say go for it buddy, include office 98.

You can legally include software that came bundled with those systems... the iMac G3s came with AppleWorks 6, Quicken 2000, Bugdom, etc. And if you are selling them running Mac OS 9, the following software is free...

• Corel Graphics 8 LE (CorelDRAW & CorelPHOTO-PAINT)
• QuickTime 6.0.3
• Nisus Writer 4.1.6
• iTunes 2.0.4
• Audion 3.0.2
• Strata DVbase 5.0 (video editing software)
• Netscape 7.0.2
• Outlook Express 5.0.6
• Mozilla 1.3.1
• Acrobat Reader 5.0
• Marathon Trilogy (Marathon, Marathon 2 & Marathon Infinity)
• Glider Pro

I'm sure there is more stuff out there, but this would be a pretty good set of software to make an iMac running Mac OS 9 useful.

As for software like MS Office 98... it is not legal to distribute copies by preinstalling it on systems that you are selling. But considering that you can put AppleWorks 6.2.8 on these systems, that is actually a better choice as it is more compatible with newer Office documents than Office 98 would be.
