Old Sony Trinitron, Onkyo Receiver and Apple TV

I have an old Sony Trintron with the usual component inputs on the back as well s-video. This was stopping me from buying an Apple TV until I realized that my Onkyo receiver has HDMI inputs and component video outputs.

It will be some time until I can buy a good TV, I'm a student...

Will this work as I think it will so I can finally stop watching all my shows and movies on my 13" MBs?

AV receivers will usually do up-conversion, but not down-conversion. For example, they will convert composite and component to HDMI, but will not convert HDMI to component or composite.

There are a variety of converters available which can convert HDMI to component. Some will also handle the HDCP problem. However, I don't think they can change the aspect ratio, so if your Sony is an old 4:3 set, you would get a "squished" picture.

Thanks for the help. I've decided to just go to Walmart and buy a 32" or so HD TV. I don't need anything fancy right now since it's just my dorm.

I picked up a Apple TV open box for $89 at BestBuy.
