is anyone else still using an old verison of Shazam? As in, before they started charging.

I'm using 1.7.0 on an iPhone 4. It's been getting buggy on iOS4 so every time I tag a song and then go back to the tagged list, the app quits.

If you had the version since it was free and upgrade, you are not limited to the 5 song limit like you are with the now free lite version, correct? You essentially upgrade to the paid version, right?

Are there ads all over the new version? I like the old version because there are zero ads getting in the way.

Just want to know what all's in the new version to see if I should finally break down and upgrade or leave it as is.

thanks!

Back up your "old" version .ipa file.
Install the new version. Try it. If you don't like it...
Delete the new version and re-install your "old" version.

No. You don't automatically upgrade from the original free version to the paid version.

And yes, you are now limited to 5 tags with the free version. Read about it https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/960816/

so basically 'don't upgrade'. being limited to 5 songs is ridiculous. and as it can do unlimited with the old version, there's not much of a reason to 'downgrade' or pay for what i already have.

If you don't want a limit, don't upgrade. If you want it to run great on your iPhone with iOS 4, consider updating or buying the paid version (if you don't want the limit).

5 tags a month is ridiculous

Support the developer(s) and buy the paid version? What's wrong with paying for things these days. I personally use SoundHound, as it's loaded with more features that are actually worth the money.

To be honest though, I've never looked up more than 5 songs in a month (aside from showing off the app to friends). If money is an issue, you can use Safari to search the lyrics and you're bound to get a result. It's not as fast or as cool, but it's a free method.

how do you do this and/or see if you had already done this?
Select an app's icon in iTunes' Apps section. ctrl+click on it and select Show in Finder. That's where you .ipa files are.

~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/

Back them up!

When I back up my .ipa files, I also add the version number to the filename if/when needed.

is that the same as when you update your apps i see a bunch of apps in the trash. are those full app files you take them from the trash and back them up?
