Older Imac with Up to date Leopard will not boot

My Imac will not boot. After pressing the power button the power comes on and I hear the system coming on. The screen gets a faded/fuzzy apple with vertical jumping lines and goes no further. Any thoughts on what to do?

When you say "older," how old? If this is an iMac G5 first generation, you might likely have the graphics failure / recall issue... but the recall ended. I think probably the best option is to call Apple and try to get them to do a goodwill replacement on it.

3 to 4 years old. So I am sure it is out of any recall help. I will call and try since all they can do is say no.
